Code Enforcement

The Village of Old Field Code Enforcement, located in the Village Keeper’s Hall (Old Field Lighthouse at Old Field Point), operates from 8 AM to 12 AM, seven days a week. Code Enforcement officers patrol the village and private roads to enforce all provisions of the Village Code and local ordinances. When appropriate, Code Enforcement can issue warnings, notices of violations, summons, and stop-work orders. Code Enforcement is authorized to issue parking tickets to automobiles parked in violation of Village parking provisions. In addition, the Officers will conduct house checks (inspection of residential properties and buildings) as requested by the homeowners during times of prolonged absence.

Code Enforcement officers will, upon discovering criminal, firematic, emergency, and other public safety concerns, report such situations to the Suffolk County Police Department, the Setauket Fire Rescue Department, or other relevant responders. Old Field’s Code Enforcement officers are experienced professionals from law enforcement agencies such as Suffolk County, Stony Brook University, and New York City.

Code Enforcement currently operates two marked vehicles (SUVs).

811 Call Before You Dig

Since the COVID19 pandemic began in March, the Village of Old Field is fully committed to protecting and safeguarding our residents. As elected officials and leaders of the community, it is our top priority to serve and provide assistance during these unprecedented and challenging times. In partnership with National Grid, the Old Field strongly encourages that you remain vigilant and cautious when planning home improvement projects.

Nationally every nine minutes, an underground utility line is damaged because someone didn’t contact 8-1-1 before digging. Striking a single underground utility line can cause injury, repair costs, fines, and inconvenient outages.

For homeowners and contractors alike, please remember the importance of calling 8-1-1 prior to digging. Calling 8-1-1 can potentially avoid an incident that requires police and fire response. You should always be prepared to effectively deal with a potentially hazardous situation. For additional information about 8-1-1 please click here.

Customers are the first line of defense when it comes to gas leak detection and helping to keep homes and the community safe. If you smell gas anywhere, including in your home, go outside and call 9-1-1 and National Grid’s emergency number immediately:
