State of The Village<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n As the Village of Old Field enters its 97th<\/sup> year (having been incorporated in 1927), we wanted to take this opportunity to share with you the \u201cstate of the Village\u201d including current initiatives underway to secure a bright future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First, please join us in thanking former Mayor Tom Piro for his great service to the Village and wishing him well in all his future endeavors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Second, please be advised that an election will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 12:00 N to 9:00 PM. <\/strong>Any Village Resident registered to vote with the Suffolk County Board of Elections, is eligible to vote to elect the Mayor and two Village Trustees. Any resident wishing to run for office can gather signatures on petitions (available from the Village Clerk) which must be submitted to Village Hall between Tuesday, February 6 and Tuesday, February 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Third, at the January 9, 2024 Board Meeting, the Board passed the 2024-2025 budget which respected the state tax cap increase (2%) while fully funding all needed Village services and obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fourth, the Board of Trustees has commenced a comprehensive review of the Village Code. Over the course of the next few months, residents are encouraged, either through comment during public meetings or via written communication, to provide input and assistance to the Board as it attempts to ensure that our Code reflects the values and intended character of our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fifth, thanks in large part to the efforts of Trustee Rebecca Van Der Bogart, our Lighthouse, Keeper\u2019s Home and Oil Shed have been placed on the State Register of Historic Places. We further anticipate that our Lighthouse will soon be included on the National Register of Historic Places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sixth, the Board, working with the firm, R & M Engineering, is making great progress in completing the required documents to put the Lighthouse Renovation Project \u201cout to bid.\u201d Residents are encouraged to consult the website for specifics on the scope, anticipated costs, and fundraising initiatives concerning this crucial undertaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seventh, the restoration of the revetment project (designed to guarantee the stability of the cliffs of Old Field Point) has been successfully completed under the supervision of the Board and R & M Engineering. A large percentage of the funding required for this project was secured from the federal and state governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eighth, the Village reminds residents that the Village Code permits holiday lighting, comprising string lighting and other illuminated articles, only during the traditional holiday period.
